What is Promensil for?

  • Help general health and well-being during and after the menopause
  • May help to maintain bone health
  • May help to maintain cholesterol at a healthy level

How does Promensil work?

Promensil is a dietary supplement based on red clover isoflavones specifically developed to help women to support good health the menopause naturally. It contains a balanced source of the four isoflavones that are important to health, particularly during and after the menopause.

Studies have shown that Promensil may help to maintain good general health during the menopause as well as bone and cholesterol health.

What does Promensil contain?

Each tablet contains a standardised 40mg  of four isoflavones: genistein, daidzein, formononetin and biochanin A sourced from red clover (Trifolium pratense).  These red clover isoflavones are naturally occurring phytoestrogens or plant oestrogens which are NOT chemically synthesized.

Promensil is free from sugar, yeast, milk derivatives, wheat and corn starch, gluten, preservatives, artificial colours and flavours.

How should I take Promensil?

It is recommended that 1 to 2 Promensil tablets are taken daily with food.  Usually 1 tablet per day suits most women either taken in the morning with breakfast or in the evening depending on when you feel it is most appropriate for you.

Some women find that taking 2 tablets a day is preferable so that the body has a top up of dietary isoflavones twice a day.

Is there anything that may stop me getting the most out of Promensil?

Antibiotics may disrupt your ‘friendly’ gut bacteria and hence reduce the absorption of isoflavones from the gut. There is the possibility that the absorption of isoflavones may also be reduced by certain stomach remedies, such as H2 antagonists and proton pump inhibitors.

Eating live yogurt or taking a daily probiotic tablet or drink with your Promensil tablet can help to re-establish a healthy level of gut bacteria and there may be an improvement in the gut absorption of isoflavones from Promensil.

Can I use Promensil if I’m still getting regular monthly periods?

Yes given that each tablet of Promensil contains 40mg of isoflavones which is equivalent to consuming two or three legume-based meals in the diet every day.  Around 40mg of isoflavones per day is the daily amount that men and women in Latin America and Asia are eating in their diet every day throughout life.

How long should I take Promensil for?

You should be able to assess the benefits of taking Promensil after the first 4 weeks. Thereafter, take Promensil daily to maintain benefits.

What is the difference between Promensil and other red clover products and between red clover isoflavones and soy isoflavones?

Not all red clover products are the same. Red clover blossoms contain little or no isoflavones, so products such as red clover tea or supplements based on red clover blossoms may not provide sufficient isoflavones.

The standardisation process used in the manufacture of Promensil ensures that each tablet in every pack supplies 40mg of isoflavones - the level that is consumed in a typical legume based diet eaten in Asia or Japan, for example.

Red clover and soy are both legumes and belong to the same family of plants. The main difference is that red clover contains four active isoflavones whereas soy only has two. The extra two found in red clover are commonly found in other legumes such as chick peas and lentils. For more information on natural sources of isoflavones click here.

When is Promensil unsuitable?

Promensil is not recommended for use during pregnancy or lactation. They are not recommended for use by children.

Use only as directed.  If you need further information please call the Novogen Careline on 01753 833321 or talk to your healthcare professional.
